The story of “Last Christmas Home” is about the resettlement of Lupin Island, a fictitious Newfoundland outport community. During the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s many communities, like Lupin Island, were relocated or resettled to more centralized areas of the province. Although the characters of this story are fictional, the situations they encounter, their way of life and their values and beliefs have been taken from history and from interviews with those who have lived through resettlement. The people of Lupin Island represent all those who faced the hardship of resettlement with grit, grace and faith.
